The Meteorological Service of Catalonia, in conjunction with Activa Multimèdia Digital, offers you images from the Catalan Lightning Detection Network (XDDE).

If you have a multimedia mobile phone with a GPRS service, you can send a message with the word Lightning to number 7210. You will shortly receive a text message with a link to the image of the distribution of lightning strikes between the sky and the ground. If you agree to view it, you will be connected to the Internet and can access updated information on the lightning strikes of the previous three hours, represented in three different colours so you can identify the time gap between bolts of lightning.

The total cost of this service is 1.04 € (text message) plus the cost of the telephone connection to the Internet.

The XDDE is made up of three remote stations and a central processing system located at the SMC headquarters. The stations are located at Begues (Baix Llobregat), Castellnou de Seana (Pla d'Urgell) and Muntanyola (Osona).
